Freedom Village

Completed in July, 2025, Freedom Village was developed by The Community Action Partnership of North Alabama, Inc. (CAPNA), in partnership with the City of Montgomery, Alabama. It is situated next to Lanier Court, another CAPNA property, and adjacent to the historic Sydney Lanier High School. This is a development for seniors aged 55 and older and features all 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartments, along with a fitness center, computer center and a spacious hotel-sized gathering area. The L-shaped building embraces a large landscaped courtyard that features a picnic pavilion and a beautiful gazebo.
The Alabama Housing Finance Authority provided housing tax credits and HOME funds that make the rents so affordable. The City of Montgomery also provided HOME funds, and Regions Bank partnered to provide the equity investment. The Federation of Appalachian Housing Enterprises, Inc. (FAHE) provided the construction financing and The Alabama Multifamily Loan Consortium provided the permanent financing. United Bank provided favorable construction financing that converted to permanent debt at completion. The Community Action Partnership of North Alabama, Inc., (CAPNA) also provided special permanent financing as well.
The project was designed by Joel Peek and his associates at The Architectural Office of Joel Peek. Mr. Peek also contributed artwork to the project.
