Completed in December, 2010, this 56-unit community for seniors aged 55 and older was fully rented in two months. Based upon a design developed with “focus groups” of residents and refined over the past 20 years, this property features a “campus style” arrangement of buildings that affords front door parking for all residents. A private covered veranda facing a large well-landscaped common area, with ample sidewalks for walking and visiting with neighbors, is the property’s hallmark. Apartments have a vaulted ceiling, a kitchen with solid wood cabinets and granite countertops, featuring a handy “island” counter. Each unit has two bedrooms and two full baths. The clubhouse is has a large comfortable gathering area for residents celebrating birthdays and other occasions.

The property was developed in partnership with AuburnBank and the Organized Community Action Program, Inc., and is the eighth such project jointly developed by TBG and OCAP. This project was a partnership between Organized Community Action (OCAP) and The Bennett Group. Construction financing and equity was provided by AuburnBank. The permanent debt was provided by the Alabama Multifamily Loan Consortium and the Alabama Housing Finance Authority (AHFA) through both a HOME loan and a TECAP (Tax Credit Exchange Program) loan.

The sisters share an apartment.

“This is a nice place to be, we love it.” say the sisters. “We liked the rooms and were impressed with the bathrooms. There wasn’t one thing we didn’t like. It was just what we needed. If anything goes wrong we just pick up the phone and it gets fixed. No worry about yards and upkeep. It takes the worry out of every day.”
